If there is any motorsport that has been thought of as the epicenter for sex appeal, it has been Formula 1. But now with a modern day approach of being politically correct, and safe from activists who condemn sex appeal, this visual attribute will now be a like the faded memory, like the best party from your teenage youth.
2018 may be a glimpse into what the future holds for motorsports racing in general. Because this past January, the Formula 1 organization announced they would no longer participate in the activity of hosting promotional girls on the staging grid.
But why? What truly is the harm in having appealing models displayed next to the vehicles? Have those who have shunned this practiced ever considered that those participating models working the events possibly hold a career in visual sensuality? And if this new rule is fueled by sexism, then invite male models too — or would that cross the line of a sport driven by masculine dominance?
In Formula 1’s recent press release, it was stated that;
“Formula 1 considers the time spent by teams and drivers on the grid before a race as one of celebration, where guests and various performers can add to the glamour and spectacle of the Grand Prix.”
But are these people who represent brands to create a visually stunning atmosphere considered part of the performance? What if other performers such as Lady Gaga, Brittney Spears or Justin Bieber were invited; would each be required to wear non-revealing clothing and to not dance provocatively?
